It's the place where Petrouchka, L’Après-midi d’un faune and Daphnis et Chloé with Vaslav Nijinski have been created. It hosted the famous Ballet Russes, and countless French operettes. For more than 150 years, le Châtelet has maintained excellency in every artistic domains.

As part of the "Paris, rives de la Seine" (Paris, Seine riverbanks") it's protected by the UNESCO since 1991 and is on the list of famous French buildings since 1979, period when the Mairie de Paris (Paris town hall) recieved the property of the place.

Paris has decided to undertake renovation works for till September 2019 and has appointed Philippe Pumain as the head architecte of the project.
